Teaching
Over the last 20 years I have maintained active private studios in New York and Westchester, served as a violin and viola instructor at the Larchmont Music Academy for fourteen years, taught at St. Luke’s School in Manhattan, and held an adjunct faculty position at New York University. My students have ranged from absolute beginners as young as four years old to advanced players preparing for NYSSMA adjudications, All-County and All-State orchestra auditions, and conservatory and festival entrance requirements.
As an educator, I believe in teaching to the individual and empowering students to be independent, creative, and efficient musicians. The path of a successful and fulfilled musician begins with inspiration and continues with technique. I understand that musical inspiration comes in many forms, from Classical, Pop, and Jazz to Folk music and beyond, and my background in those genres has given me a wealth of exciting repertoire to share with my students. I prioritize giving my students a strong technical foundation and always teach the “why” behind tasks I set for them. This ensures that students have a complete understanding of how their instrument works and how to interpret the music on the page, which in turn creates confident and creative musicians. I find joy in teaching a broad range of students, from those who just want to be able to play their favorite pop tunes to those who are preparing to audition for a conservatory. I strongly believe that music is for everybody, that there are many different ways to be a musician, and that music is truly one of life’s greatest gifts.
I hold a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and an MA from New York University, and I have spent the past decade-plus performing in Broadway shows including Moulin Rouge!, Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, Gypsy, Sunset Boulevard, and Ragtime, among others. I am also active in contemporary chamber music as a co-founder of several ensembles and as a longtime member of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. I believe this breadth — from classical to new music to Broadway — allows me to meet students where they are and inspire them with a wide range of musical possibilities.
